Mission Statement:

North Caribbean Research S.A. (NCR) was formed in 1985 under the laws of the Dominican Republic and was awarded a contract for the exploration and recovery of historical shipwrecks along a section of the North Coast running from the Haitian border on the west to Puerto Plata on the east.

This historic area was a major part of the route for Spanish ships leaving their New World Capital of Santo Domingo bound for Europe. For the next 400 years of New World colonization the ports along the North Coast of the island became frequent trading and re-supply stops for many European nations.

The concession area of NCR contains a vast number of these ships lost at sea due to storms, poor cartography and just bad luck.

NCR's mission is to examine as many of these lost ships as possible and disseminate the information from the remains as to the ships construction, its origin, its crew, its mission and the role it played or could have played in the colonization of the New World.

Richard Berry, President,
North Caribbean Research S.A.

(NCR has recovered over 10,000 artifacts since 1985 and NCR plans to display the artifacts in museums such as “PRISM” and for study collections. All excavations carried out under strict archaeological guidelines set forth by the OCOMOS Charter with international students and professors from NOVA University, Oxford University and others.)

Plate discovered on the "Tile Wreck" believed to be transfer ware circa late 19th century.

Perfume bottles encrusted in coral rubble.

Grape shot from the "Carron wreck" uniquely wrapped in muslin cloth.

The muslin cloth was soaked in oil to prevent corrosion while stowed on board.

Above, the shot had been assembled and was ready for firing!

A grinding wheel for sharpening farm tools found on the "Faience wreck".

Diver Chris Berry examining the "Faience wreck" site.

Diver and one of the attorneys for NCR, Richard Donato, tests one of our new under-water communications masks. This technology allows for diver-to-diver and diver-to-ship communications allowing precision searches, increased accuracy and safety. A diver can call for assistance and receive a rapid response!
